We Start With the Real Estate

Our underwriters focus first and foremost on having a thorough knowledge of the asset, its place in the market, and the sponsor’s business plan. We then use this knowledge to evaluate the risk given your place in the capital stack. Closing a successful transaction involves more than just evaluating economic risk. Getting to a closing requires buy-in from internal and external constituencies: borrowers, agencies, B-piece buyers, syndicates, credit and investment committees. Our team’s focus on identifying underwriting discrepancies and deal risks early, and communicating to your deal team in real-time, allows you to address issues and modify deal terms on the front end — not at closing.
Our underwriters average over 15 years of experience. They have institutional training and have had exposure to every part of the capital stack and every asset type. Most have spent their entire careers in real estate capital markets and have seen more than one real estate cycle. They have the experience to synthesize sponsor business plans and test the investment thesis. And for more straightforward cash-flowing deals, they have the ability to quickly and efficiently review and underwrite transactions.
